There’s always been the question of why we give up on our goals. I have some thoughts on this and I think a lot of it boils down to our mindsets and how we approach life. Our experiences, what we’ve been through that affects us and how we work toward our goals but then don’t complete them.
Let’s delve into how we approach life. A lot of times we’re looking for fast results because of the world we live in. We want to be the finished product, having the accolades, social validation and when we don’t get there fast enough, we are ready to give up. We fail to enjoy the journey, the grind of it, the good and bad days, not just the good days.
Status has ruined a lot of things in the world. Social media doesn’t help the cause either. We look at a scripted reality of what people are doing, a lot of it isn’t authentic. So we chase what we see on our screens instead of what’s real.
I can admit that I’ve set goals and not completed them, I’ve given up when I was younger. As I’ve gotten older, the focus has changed and shifted for me. I’m more inclined to take breaks and then come back to my goals than just flat out give up. I’ve become more mentally focused on my life journey and have a full understanding that not all days will be great.
The next component of this is, we lack the consistency and discipline to continue going. We tend to get caught up in all of the other things in our lives, causing us to lose mental focus which is necessary to continue striving for greatness.
The reality is, we won’t always have motivation and we won’t always be inspired. But we can have consistency and discipline. I’m not always motivated to write blogs or record podcasts but I know being consistent matters the most. Being disciplined to take 30 minutes out of my day to record a podcast and set it up to go live on certain days is part of the journey.
One of these blogs or podcasts can be the breaking point for you to get going or to continue with pursuing your goals. Let’s work on taking breaks from our goals and not giving up. Let’s focus on changing the gameplan with our goals and shifting instead of throwing in the towel. Too many times have I seen people get frustrated and want to give up on something they’ve been working on and I tell them, the journey won’t always be easy.
Let’s stay focused on the moment, learning who we are, what works the best and knowing when to shift. The journey doesn’t get easier, it becomes more challenging.
That’s my blog for today, be good and go accomplish your goals!
