The Start of My Clothing Line

There was always a thought process of starting a clothing line. I had a vision of what I wanted it to be, what designs I’d create and how I would go about it. Starting a clothing line was another opportunity for me to be creative and build something from the bottom up how I did with my writing and books.

To start, I did a brainstorming session and wrote down anything that came to mind. I wrote notes for a good hour of things I don’t see in the market on shirts, hoodies and tank tops. There aren’t a lot of simple, yet motivating quotes with a cool background design and feel to the shirt. That became my goal, to make designs for shirts that would be cool to wear and in different colors.

When starting a clothing line, it’s best to do research on reputable companies that can make your product and do the shipping for you. Unless you plan on doing things yourself, that’s a bigger challenge but it surely can be done. You definitely have to plan accordingly and know the whole process.

When you go through the process of deciding what works and what doesn’t, don’t rush anything. Take your time and do your due diligence. One thing I did wrong was rush the process and went with a company that didn’t make quality stuff and it set me back another two weeks from launching my site. I was helping a friend with hers first so it took more time to find a good company where they have quality material for the clothing and we’re paid in a timely manner.

I surely enjoyed the process of making the designs, that’s the fun part. There’s a sense of knowing these are designs of your own and people will have access to what you created on a website. The creative process of your designs, take your time, be meticulous and allow all details to be on point. You don’t want to be forced to make changes and that’s time consuming.

Whatever you choose to do whether it’s order your products in large bulk, have a company print and ship it to your customer or you make your shirts yourself, it’s all worth it. I went with having a company (Spreadshirt) print my design, ship the product to the customer and I make a certain percentage as profit.

Enjoy the process of starting your own business. I have surely done that, there’s a lot of decisions to make, but it’s worth it in the end. Don’t forget to promote your store and website when it’s set up. My store is set up through the Spreadshirt website but a lot of people utilize e-commerce platforms for their stores so do your research and plan on making the important decision on what website you will use for your store.

The Aquarianmind Clothing Line is available on Spreadshirt and they will print and ship everything to you!

Be good everyone and go accomplish your goals!
