The Goal to 80 Books

The crazy part about life sometimes is when you set big goals for yourself and you accomplish them. I accomplished one of the biggest goals of my life by self-publishing 60 books in eight years.

February 2016 through December 2024 was one wild ride of publishing so many books on social issues. Now it’s time to accomplish another big goal…publishing another 20 books to reach 80 books.

After a two year hiatus of writing books, I’m back to it and ready to write more social issues that are important in the world. It feels good to be creating again, doing brainstorming sessions and developing characters.

I’m currently working on a five book series that focuses on four black college students who graduate college and they chronicle their stories to get to where they are currently. It’s something that came to mind a few years ago and now I’m finally putting this book series to fruition.

While I did write Alphabet City and the focus on social issues that plague black people in America, you would think I’d tackle everything in a 12 book series. But guess what? I didn’t get to everything and this book series will delve into more components of the inner city but also black people who make it and live in the suburbs too.

Without giving away too much of the book series (because I have to write blogs on my process in the near future), let’s just say I’m mostly done with the first book.

Along with this five book series, there’s a lot more books that are in the works. Some concepts, ideas that are kept in my phone and my iPad that I can develop into standalones or book series.

It’s a rarity I let anyone see my folder of book ideas and concepts but I let my best friend Melissa look at my phone over dinner one night and her eyes got really big. She was astonished to see how many book ideas that I have and will eventually write.

My goal to 80 books will be gradual and with patience. The five book series I’m working on currently, the complete series will release in 2027. I’ll most likely stick to my schedule of February, April, June, September and December which is what I’ve done over the years with five book series.

I’ll most likely publish the next 20 books within the next 5-6 years (barring anything major changing in my life). I’m stretching it out for various reasons (preventing burnout, maintaining a regular life, other things in the works) so things are a lot different this time around with how I’m approaching my writing and publishing books.

What I will say is, it’s okay to set crazy goals, the important component is consistency and discipline. Believe me when I tell you this, I’m not always motivated or inspired but I am driven, goal-oriented and know what I’m capable of.

When you figure out your purpose and you’re willing to go for it, you’ll always feel fulfilled. I think it’s fair to say I’ve established my legacy with my writing, podcasts and these blogs. Let’s continue to be great and build your legacy too.

That’s my blog for today, thanks for reading as always, be good and go accomplish your goals!
