Work 40 Years For Maybe 20 Years of Freedom?

The Corporate America grind of working for forty years is becoming pointless. I’m at a place now where I’m doing jobs instead of having a career. I’m doing jobs for the sake of a paycheck and sadly I’ve been doing it the majority of my adult life.

How the world is structured for us to work 40+ years of our lives for maybe 20 years of freedom in retirement is asinine. Most people don’t even live that long after they retire and barely lived their lives. All they did was survive and exist, barely any vacations, good moments, just moments of grief and being mentally drained.

Recently, I saw a social media post of an older man who came out of retirement to work for DoorDash to pay for his wife’s medicine that she needs because she was let go from her job. Imagine you work your whole life to retire and be forced to figure out how to make money to pay for medicine out of your own pocket.

Thankfully there was a woman who saw this older man delivering her food and sprung into action. She was able to raise over 400K to make sure this wonderful older couple can live their lives comfortably. Just think, this can be you in the future, any of us in all honesty.

As I pen this blog, I’ve been working for 28 years consistently. I can’t say all of my jobs have been bad, most of them have been good but I surely wasn’t paid my worth for what I brought and gave to the companies I worked for.

We get stuck in this rat race of running on a hamster wheel to nowhere. I’ve written blogs about this and it explains why our souls are tired. The thought of working another 20+ years to finally retire and try to at least enjoy the fruits of my labor is not it for me at all.

Gen X and Gen Z have been socially programming into believing that this life is how it should be. Millions of us are starting to see it for what it really is. We’ve been lied to and most of us already fell for the college to Corporate America propaganda. That buried us in debt and now we’re trying to find some normalcy in our lives with inflation everywhere from cost of living to our social media apps.

Wherever you are in your life, just know I can feel and understand what you’re going through. At the rate of where this world is going, just the thought of existing in this realm for another 40+ years is mentally, emotionally and spiritually draining.

I truly hope we all figure it out. You’re not alone, we’re in this together.

That’s my blog for today, thanks for reading, be good and go accomplish your goals!
