What Once Was…

Life when I was younger was way different. More connection, more compassion, more empathy, more joy. Sometimes I wonder what life would be like if we didn’t have the internet or social media apps. But then again, we wouldn’t have a lot of the things we do now if it weren’t for the internet and the advancement of technology.

Being able to communicate with others all around the world was due to the internet. I would say that’s one of the biggest positives to it. We can talk to people on video and over the phone because of the internet. Companies have grown and become greater than what they are because of the internet.

But let’s get back to the topic at hand, what once was. It’s fair to say that my generation was the last to live without the internet and all of the technology we have not. We were outside way more as kids, granted we did have the video game systems, it just wasn’t our life line when it came to connection.

It’s so ironic that when I was younger, there were always people at the parks on the playground, playing basketball, handball,  baseball, football, you don’t see it as much anymore.  Is there a loss of connection between my generation and ones behind mine? Maybe, who knows.

All I can say is, amusement parks, water fights in the summer, catching lightning bugs, going to Blockbuster video to rent games and movies, those are moments I’ll always remember. Even going to the park after school to play basketball or hangin’ out at my friends house and sometimes staying the night when there was no school was fun.

What once was will always be instilled in my mind. I can only hope we get back to it for a little while. Sometimes it’s good to see videos on social media of kids playing on their block, riding their bikes, playing sports and being active. We’ve become a generation of unhealthy people and body movement is what keeps our spirits up, our bodies healthy and our heart rates good.

That’s my blog for today, thanks for reading, be good and go accomplish your goals!
