Nostalgia and Being A Kid Again

My previous blog of “Escaping From Our Reality” I went into how music has been one way that I escape from reality and the world we’re currently living in. A while back, I was reflecting on my life and why I do so many things and I realized one common thing, I do things because it brings me peace and I feel like a kid again.

When I go on my bike rides, I did that a ton as a kid and it brings me calmness and peace. To add to that, I listen to music when I’m on my bike rides. I put in my earbuds and just go and I’m in my happy place of peace. My mind drifts off and the focus is just on the exercise and enjoying the music coming through my earbuds.

When I play my Xbox 360 and I’m enjoying my College Hoops 2K8 game, it brings me back to my younger days where I didn’t have a care in the world. It makes me think of my old place I used to live in and being in my room just chillin and playing video games for hours. I bought games for my Xbox 360 that I had when I was younger like Borderlands but then also bought games that I never got to buy and play like the Tom Clancy shooting games and Gears of War.

When I’m going to get shots up on the basketball court, that’s my biggest place of peace. It’s just me, the basketball and the hoop with my earbuds in my ears. I get to play however long I want, workout until I’m tired and not have to think about anything that’s going on in my life. It’s my biggest stress reliever for me and it always has been. It’s why I’m thankful I live in warm weather all year. I can go to the court whenever I want for a workout for an hour or so.

I start to understand why so many people do things that bring them joy and remind them of their childhood. It brings them peace and gives them personal time for themselves to be happy. We’re so busy with life and having to do things that we forget to take time for ourselves to do things we enjoy for a little while.

Finding ways to enjoy ourselves in a healthy way is so important. So if you know someone who has a hobby or something fun they do to escape life for a little while, embrace it, cheer them on and encourage them to do it more. Sometimes we need others to push us to do the things we forget made us happy as little kids.

That’s my blog for today, thanks for reading, be good and go accomplish your goals!
