With the world changing and shifting in so many ways, there are so many of us that are talented and gifted in more than one thing. I’m here to tell you, don’t let anyone put you in a box. Living in a box means you’re restricting yourself and keeping yourself from showing all of your great gifts.
Too many times have I heard people say, “you should focus on one main thing and do that.” That is so far from the truth. If you’re a Corporate America person who’s good with the same job for years, then it’s fine to live in a box if you don’t have any other talents or gifts. But too many of us are stuck in Corporate America, knowing that we could use that as a tool to pursue our passions and what we’re talented at.
The world is so abundant and I love what businessman and entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk said a few years ago when asked about pursuing your passion. He said, “Try different things, see what you’re great at and pursue those things.” That put a lot of things into perspective for me when I heard that.
When I did hear that, I was only writing my books, nothing else. After hearing those things from Gary Vee, I started blogging. Then I stepped into the space of podcasting. Then I’d spend months trying out different website platforms before I found Jimdo that fit perfectly into my needs and have been with them nearly 5 years. Then I developed my own podcast website with Podpage.
Then I decided to start turning my books into audiobooks. I took on the challenge of trying different things and working at it. I became someone who was multi-talented and diverse in what I did. Then I took what I learned and passed it down to people for them to self-publish their own books and develop their platforms.
Don’t hinder yourself from doing things because others can’t see what you’re great at. We all have strengths and weaknesses, focus on the strengths and find people who can help with your weaknesses. As an author, I know certain book covers I surely can’t create. It’s why I can find someone who can and pay them, it makes my life significantly easier.
Go learn about yourself, what drives you, motivates you, inspires you. Go try different things and figure out what moves you to do those few things. Even if it takes a few years, it doesn’t matter your age. I’ve heard of stories where people have quit being a lawyer to open a dance studio and pursue that. There are so many more stories like this so don’t live in a box, live outside of it and take over the world!
That’s my blog for today, thanks for reading, be good and go accomplish your goals!
