Being In The Moment

In a world of high speed internet, always being on the go and thinking about what’s next, sometimes we forget to stop, slow down and be in the moment. I’m noticing that a lot with so many of us (including me). Where we’re not focused on right now, and we’re focused on tomorrow, next week, next month, next year.

Everything is moving so fast from time (which is a construct to control us), to our lives feeling monotonous and predictable, we lose sense of who we are and our purpose a lot of times. We forget to just sit and “be.” Be bored, sit in quiet, go outside in nature (if you can), have alone time to yourself, doing something you love, listening to music, going for a drive, something to escape for just a little while.

Being in the moment can easily consist of not being on your phone. Spending quality time with those closest to you and not having to check your phone for text messages, phone calls, notifications from emails or social media, we’re caught in always wanting to know what’s going on with someone else. Maybe we need to be caught up in what’s going on with us internally.

We’ve lost a sense of balance within ourselves. We’re raising children, exercising, working a corporate job, paying rent/mortgage, paying bills, buying food and everything else that comes with being an adult. But it doesn’t mean we lose the kid in us by having fun, laughing, being silly, and doing what we used to do as children.

Playing boardgames, dancing to music, riding a bike, rollerblading, those are the things that brought us joy. Why are we not doing those things anymore? Those are things that keep us healthy, vibrant, in good spirits besides the grind of getting through life.

We have to get back to slowing down in life. I’ve learned to do that myself and it’s helping me a lot. I try not to stress as much about a lot, I spend time with friends and family who bring me joy and happiness, I work on projects and things that matter to me, I meet people who motivate and inspire me to be great.

Remember to slow down, be in the moment, enjoy life because tomorrow is not guaranteed. Thanks for reading my blog, be good and go accomplish your goals!
