Discipline Over Dopamine

Dopamine is a hit to our brains that boosts ourselves and gives us a brief high. Social media likes, follows, comments, doing something good for someone, a myriad of different things can be dopamine hits. But what happens when that becomes the focus of our lives and not the aspects of our lives that bring forth growth?

Our discipline to what we’re great at, improving, learning and growing are things that are a lost art in today’s world. We’re caught up in what’s next rather than focusing on the task at hand. We’re not taking the time to focus on the journey of growth, prosperity and instead are comparing ourselves to others, following what others are doing and not taking leadership in our own lives.

Discipline is not easy, it never has been, it never will be. I’m guilty at times of not being disciplined with my blog writing or recording my podcasts weekly. I’m too busy focused on other things that don’t give me fulfillment or growth.

Discipline is being consistent in what we’re doing. Dopamine are temporary highs that only last for an allotted time. Discipline will gives you longevity in all that you’re doing, dopamine makes you feel good in the moment and then it’s gone. Discipline is a marathon that you go through mentally, spiritually and emotionally. Dopamine is happiness in that exact moment but you’ll always be looking for what’s next.

We all have choices and decisions to make daily. It’s a matter of whether we’re choosing discipline over dopamine. It’s like an athlete that wants to be great, they will have to choose that hard workout and be disciplined to achieve success rather than the social media post of their last game where they were great and everyone is leaving comments on social media telling them how great they are.

Life is a neverending journey of choosing what’s more important to you. Choose wisely. That’s my blog for today, thanks for reading, be good and go accomplish your goals.
