Your Past Can’t Be Your Passion

The title of this blog is something that needs to be talked about. The reason why is, we spend a lot of time focused on what was instead of what is. This exact moment right now and not what happened yesterday, last week, last month, last year or years ago. We spend so much time reflecting that we’re not focused on right now.

When I say your past can't be your passion, it means you can't be focused on what happened so much that we lose track of what we're doing today. We sit and fixate on life and the regrets we have or the things we wish we could change. Am I guilty of this? Without a doubt I am and it's not always the best thing.

I'm guilty of being someone who wishes that I can change a myriad of things. I'm guilty of making my past my passion and I don't want you to fall into that trap. Am I getting better at focusing on the moment? Yes. Is it a work in progress? For sure. We all regress and reflect back on a past experience or situation and want to change something or handle it differently.

When your past occupies your mind all of the time, it prevents growth. Growth in all aspects of your life. You can’t focus on things that you can’t change or control. You can’t focus on “what if” situations that could change the exact moment that you’re in right now.

The prime example of “what if” is dating or marrying someone that you liked so much. I think a lot of us are guilty of this and what I will say when it comes to me is, I’m glad it didn’t workout and it didn’t happen. I say that because I wouldn’t be here in this moment typing this blog, living where I am and having the life that I do.

When your past becomes your passion, if you are to change one thing in your life from your past, it changes everything else that happens afterwards. So anything that has happened after something that didn’t workout (a job you wanted, a relationship you wanted to work out), it was meant to happen that way for a reason. It’s hard to process and comprehend because a lot of times, I struggle with it too but it’s reality. Everyone’s journey is different and is meant to go the way it’s supposed to.

Let’s focus on the present, not the past. The past taught and helped you to get to the present. And in the future, this present moment will prepare you to be in the future based on the choices and decisions you make now. I always say this and will continue to say it, the choices and decisions you make now will impact you in the future.

That’s by blog for today, thanks for reading, be good and go accomplish your goals!
